Treatments we offer
The scar team offer a range of treatments for scarring, both physical and psychological. The type of treatment we advise will vary according to the type of scar, how mature it is, prior treatments, your general health and your expectations. Sometimes, the treatment required will vary with time as a scar naturally matures. For inflamed scars such as hypertrophic and keloid scars, it is not uncommon for a course of treatment to be required for at least two years. At the opposite end of the spectrum, a scar that has a poor cosmetic appearance can sometimes be dealt with by a short scar revision operation.
Our treatments include:
Psychological counselling and support
Camouflage make up
Pressure garment sizing and fitting
Pressure prosthetics

Treatment
The type of treatment required will depend upon the type of scar, its stage of healing and a number of other factors in your history such as prior treatments, other medical conditions and allergies.
Research
The Scar Team based at The Bristol Nuffield Hospital are passionate about research into the field of wound healing and scarring. We are keen to understand why angry scars develop
Support
As a patient with a significant scar, it can be difficult to know where to turn to for support in all its forms, from financial to patient groups.
Prevention
There is no guarantee that any one measure will prevent a scar from forming. This is despite some quite impressive claims made by the manufacturers of certain cosmetic products.
